Readability

As I have written in previous posts, I am a big fan of English and a big crank on the subject of its apparent deterioration at the hands of public speakers, academics and others. I recall once reading a comparison, in terms of education level required for comprehension, of the speeches of a number of American politicians beginning with Abraham Lincoln and moving up to George “Nookyoolar” Bush. Do I need to spell out the results?

I came across an interesting site today that purports to analyse your BLOG READABILITY and tell you what education level is required of the reader - from elementary through graduate school.

Does it work? I don’t know. It is a rather subjective evaluation, so who can say? This site was rated as High School. Yoinks! Zounds! The knavish varlet responsible for this demeaning affront best scarper himself apace lest he feel the sting of my rapier come cockcrow!
